Lady%20of%20the%20House%20Jeanette%20Rankin%20entered%20the%20House%20in%201917%20making%20history%20as%20the%20first%20woman%20to%20hold%20a%20seat%20in%20the%20congress.Throughout the history of the United States House of Representatives, there have been 214 women serving in that body. In 1917 Jeanette Rankin, a Republican from Montana, became the first woman in the Unites States Congress upon being elected to the House.
