Giving Back !
As I begin to navigate through my sophomore year as a political science major at City College new responsibilities outside of school have been imparted in my life. I received a job offer from the Bronx YMCA to run two different civic engagement programs. Tuesday through Thursday I do an after-school curriculum known as Service Learning at a nearby school. This program consist of teaching children about the world and they live in , through lessons that revolve around community service and the whole course is taught through “project – based learning “ to captivate the children’s attention. I enjoy this program because it is a fun way for children to learn more about that world they live in outside of information obtained in the classroom. The program consists of middle school and high school students. The second program I facilitate is “Teen’s Take the City“, we meet every Monday. I am most excited about this program because it is a competition where teen groups from each YMCA branch have a chance to propose bills they feel will improve their community. They students participate in a mock session and there are a wide range of awards that can be won such as outstanding presenter, best debater, teen mayor and much more! I look forward to training my students to win these positions as well as teach them skills that will benefit them for a lifetime!
